Granular materials as solid structures

Posted by Analog Watch Co. on

When it comes to building something using conventional materials, the first thing that comes to mind is most likely not ice-cream sprinkles, coffee grounds, or salt. However, for artist Fernando Mastrangelo, these types of materials are exactly the ones he wants to work with. "Along with sugar, sand, porcelain, silica, BB pellets and more—these materials are fertile ground for Mastrangelo's MMATERIAL line of furniture, which blends a wide range of materials with casting techniques to create minimal forms with complex structures." After drawing out his pieces, Mastrangelo goes to work by casting these unique materials into one of a kind pieces that people can actually incorporate into their everyday.
